Angela Babby
About the Artist
Art glass brings a fresh sparkling dimension to Angela’s work. She sees the mysterious quality of nature captured in the iridescence and saturated color of the glass. This medium allows her to push the limits of reality by juxtaposing the real — expressed by her expertly rendered enamel on glass kiln fired portraits, patterns and flowers — with the surreal, in the form of complex background patterns and heavily iridized and textured glass. Vivid colors cause an emotional reaction, and the carefully crafted bead and quill work details create the impression of a painting. These incongruities make the work interesting, unique and multifaceted.
Angela Babby received her BFA in 1990 from MT State University in Billings with an emphasis in painting. Her preferred medium is enamel on glass which is then kiln fired. Ms. Babby is Oglala Lakota from Pine Ridge, South Dakota and shares a grandfather with Chief Red Cloud. Her most recent awards include; winner of Best of Classification: Paintings, Drawings, Graphics & Photography, 1st Place of Division Representational Painting; 1st Place Mixed Media 2-D Santa Fe Indian Art Market 2012.
