Artist Statement
My name is Anthony Yazzie, I am born for Salish into the Navajo Clan “Bitter water”. I have received a Certificate in Digital Arts and Design from the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, MT. I am attending the University of Montana to attain my Bachelors degree of Fine Arts, and am receiving the more intense studio based BFA program. I am 25 years old, and grew up on the Flathead Indian Reservation in northwestern Montana.
I have been working with the ideas of duality, and my own identity. Also, I have been struggling to place myself in any categorical viewpoint, almost treading multiple lives. In my work, I attempt to make sense of my identity, and what I refer to myself as. Through my use of color and pure abstraction mixed with pattern work, I try to explain my life and my Native American cultural upbringing.
