Artist Statement
The series “Quiet Sentiments” reflects my personal experiences with life changes that unexpectedly affected my mental health; A newborn, depression, as well as conflicting family issues pushed me beyond my comfort zone. It forced me to make difficult choices, yet from it I learned to embrace change and to move forward in life. This series became a tool to expressing my confusion and anxiety, placing it into a physical form that reflects my vision of reality.
Natural scenes and life become the primary focus, representing my lifestyle and the environments in which I thrive. Nature continuously changes, yet it endures the seasons and natural disasters that may wreak havoc, returning to flourish again. The process of mirroring and overlapping becomes a metaphorical symbol of change; As I grow as an individual, changes may occur that may alter my perception of life and of myself. I have learned to move forward past these changes and continue to thrive as mother, as an artist, and as an individual, using my experiences and emotions as a tool to fuel my creativity.
