About the Artist
Cathryn Sugg is a professional fine artist and arts education specialist residing in Glasgow, Montana where she works as a liaison between the contemporary art world and rural North Eastern Montana, presenting artworks and arts education experiences to those who would not otherwise have such an opportunity.
Cathryn has an extensive arts education background, which has included involvement with the Andre Agassi Foundation, The University of Las Vegas, Nevada, and The University of Montana. She earned her B.F.A from UNLV in 2006 and her M.F.A from UM in 2011, and she holds a secondary education teaching license. Acting as an independent contractor for school districts, she writes and presents continuing education curriculum which uses contemporary Native American artworks to address multiple disciplines and teach common core content standards simultaneously She teaches children’s and adults fine art classes and workshops, lectures occasionally and hosts visiting artist groups in the Valley County area.
When not acting as an educator, Cathryn maintains her own studio practice: working simultaneously on contemporary artworks that define her status as an emerging artist, and maintaining a thriving commercial practice as a consignment artist. She has had work exhibited in Seattle, WA., Troy, NY., and Las Vegas, NV and her artworks investigate themes related to region, role, and gender. In addition to nurturing her own artistic growth, she and her husband encourage the endeavors of their two year old son Rivers in their country home outside Glasgow.
