Artist Statement
The raven design came about from the sadness I felt after my mother’s death. It languished in my sketch book where I placed feathers that I would come across as I made my way through life without someone who was so important to me. Last year, after years working with glass in all forms, I began to paint with transparent enamels in reverse on the back of glass. I decided to paint the raven design and then dip the collected feathers in black enamel and press them into the glass around the raven. The result is a piece that represents chaos, loss, and then with a spattering of yellow on the front of the piece, the promise of the future.
