Artist Statement
I am now experiencing the very best years of my artistic life. Understanding visual composition in all it’s complexity added to the skills and confidence born by 30 years a professional illustrator, has been invaluable to my new journey.
My intent is to create new relationships between objects whether a root, a stone, reused wood, or old rusty wire. I like to think of my work as taking part in the ongoing process of creation and evolution. A process that rejects nothing but instead finds new form, new meaning and new life as art.
These one of a kind sculptures are mixed media. I create ceramic shapes to compliment wood from dismantled buildings, discarded and rusty tools, wire, chains or old cast iron farm or household equipment. Sometimes they include impressions of plants representing the nature that takes over after man made objects are left behind. I create each pieces with a minimalistic approach, giving honor to the beauty of simple things. I hope to engender a sense of peace, awe and deep appreciation for the earth and our human struggle to live together inside this thin slice of soil and atmosphere we call home.
My art is also about a way of life, My wife and I continue to enjoy our love of one another, our pursuit of art, our children, grandchildren, friends, and the life and living that art has provided us both.
