Johnathan Marquis
About the Artist
Jonathan Marquis is a multi-media artist, writer, and mountaineer, seeking immersive experiences within mountainous terrain to consider posthuman geographies. His investigations of the landscape began when he launched the Glacier Drawing Project in 2014 – an endeavor to draw all the remaining glaciers in the state of Montana. He has since covered thousands of miles on foot in remote mountain ranges, translating his encounters through drawing, painting, cameraless photography, and video. Marquis received his Masters of Fine Arts and Art History from the University of Arizona, and has exhibited works across the United States and abroad, including exhibitions at The Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson, The University of Arizona Museum of Art, Missoula Art Museum, Center for Visual Arts in Denver, CO, The University of Colorado-Pueblo, and Fine Art Complex 1101 in Tempe, AZ. He currently splits his time based in Missoula, Montana and Tucson, AZ.
