Artist Statement
Raised along the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains my view West was always obstructed, I knew that the lands beyond the rolling hills were expansive, wild and home to different ways of living than what I was used to growing up outside the “Beltway”. The West has always felt timeless and for this it was easy for me to romanticize. The images I have selected are a part of a greater collection of work titled “Up Until Now”; a personal project that is a more a study of time than over any particular subject, simple observations where gesture is the subject and the pinnacle of the image. The gesture is the accumulation of time quietly and effortlessly moving around us, everything has been leading up to this moment when the magic of the photographic process can obtain a small sliver of light as time continues to flow onward.
