Artist Statement
I grew up in Kalispell, MT. My parents moved here in the early 90’s, our family has always held a lot of pride in living in Montana. A lot of my work is based on the figure, and I am especially interested in people from Montana who have left a lasting impact (see Montana Folklore series on my website).
My latest series, Quarantine Dreams, is a series of high fashion masks. This was in response to the ongoing pandemic and the current need to wear a mask in public. I got to thinking—what if each mask we wore was an art statement? The impracticalness of high fashion masks is so enticing to me.
I’m a painter primarily and prefer using gouache and watercolor. I love the immediacy of water-based paints, perhaps I am impatient to see the end result!
